MEMORANDUM:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR GUIDANCE WHILE ON LONG LEAVE
It is a civil offence to take BEER, WINE, or SPIRITS on board the train with you, and the Naval and Army Train Patrols have been instructed to confiscate and destroy all liquor found.
2. You are to be properly dressed and behave yourself in a proper manner becoming your UNIFORM while traveling and on leave. Cases of annoying other passengers or damaging Railway property are severely dealt with.
3. The fact of you being in the Navy does not entitle you to travel free of charge. If you should lose your railway ticket and have no money to buy another, you should immediately report fact by telegram to your COMMANDING OFFICER or in person to an R.C.N.V.R. Division. If you are issued a new ticket the cost will be recovered from your pay account.
4. Should you require MEDICAL ATTENTION while on leave you should report to an R.C.N.V.R. Division of a representative of the Department of Pensions and National Health. The name of the local "Soldiers doctor" can usually be had from any local doctor or postman.
5. On no account are you to make any statements to the press regarding yourself and your experience in the Navy. If you are approached by the press you should seek advice from the nearest SENIOR NAVAL OFFICER.
6. If you should become urgently in need of an extended leave you may apply by telegram or letter to the COMMANDING OFFICER of the Ship from which you went on leave. Remember, if your request is not answered you are to report back on the original date and if your request is approved you will be required to produce documentary evidence of the necessity for the extension upon your return.
7. EXTENSIONS OF LEAVE WILL BE GRANTED ONLY IN EXTREMELY URGENT CASES.
8. Finally, if you get into trouble and are removed from the train by the Patrol, you are to report back to your Ship immediately. YOUR LEAVE IS CANCELLED. Remember that you are in the Navy shile on leave, and behave yourself accordingly. There are strict punishments awarded for disgracing your uniform.
