Letter

Newark,
July 28th 1863

Dear Papa:

I hope Mamma received the letter I wrote the other day on receipt of the money you sent. I wish you could have sent me more. I find that I am hard up for money all the time. I have to pay for washing and so on every week. What I write you now particularly is for you to send my trunks or at least a trunk, for mine that I used to have would not stand the journey. Put the full address on Newark, Wayne Co. N.Y. per N.Y. C. R. R. send it on immediately and ask Mamma to put in the remainder of my clothes in and I think it would be best for you to send me money to pay the freight because if you pay it, it may be in some store house for a month before I get it. I suppose you have all the hay in by this time. Has Buyers cut his wheat yet? I think I am pretty certain of stopping here after the month is up if Mr. Smith makes me any kind of an offer. The hours are long here from 6 o'clock a.m. to 9 o'clock p.m. Mr. S. does a larger business than Caldwell did or does in Ingersol nor do I like it as well. Please send my trunk as soon as you receive this as I need it to put my clothes in and if you could spare me five dollars more I should feel grateful if you cannot I shall have to make the best of it. I suppose but if you can spare it, it would help me to get a pair of pots and so on. With love to Mamma and Rhoda, I remain

Your affectionate Son,
Donald M. Forbes
