Dear Mom,

When I got back from my "historic" leave i was in Bassingbourne for three days, and then got posted to Aldermaston,( 50 miles west of London). It was a lot like Croft, my old Station near Darlington. This Station is for the Permanent Air Force, and it is very good in that respect.

However, at present we are temporari1y staying in a hanger until we get room in the barracks in about five days time. There are about 200 of us, so it's quite a bedroom! The majority of the fellows have high repatriation numbers (mine is 104 ) .

This Station is known as an Occupational Aerodrome, which means that we are likely to stay here for at least at least six months. I expect to be here for a year, so I'll get any parcels that you may send to me. Don't get any notions that you will see me before 1947.

While I was at Aldermaston I went to the nearby town of Reading and visited it's museum. I also saw the movie "Henry V", I also saw an exhibition which included the famous Mulberry Harbour.

Later I took the bus to see the residential section of the town, and finally returned to go to a dance at the Olympic Dance Hall. Too bad I had to leave Aldermaston, since there were some pretty girls in that town.

However, the night before I left tha Station there was a dance at which the A.T.S. girls were invited, and it was at that dance that I met May, an A.T.S, from Harrogate, which isn't far from Leeming. I figure I did alright to meet someone from a town so near the station to which I was going. So now I'll have someone to visit, even though I've only been here for a day!

Must close for now. Love, Lewis.
