Somewhere in Germany.
May 2, 1945
Dear Mom,
I'm in Germany!
That's the reason you haven't heard from me for awhile. I realized that you could be anxious about not getting letters, but since we were on the go for quite a while, and since we were given strict orders not to give out information, I hope you understand.
I had a fairly good trip through Belgium and Holland, taking a few days, and now I'm "somewhere in Germany".
This is just a note until I get a little more organized, and then I'll give you the story, as best as I san, without the Censor cutting out anything. When we started from England we didn't know quite where we were headed, except that it was to the Continent.
Today I received your parcel containing all that wonderful stuff, but I'll thank you for that in another letter. It certainly was timed just right, wasn't it? Thanks a million. I can really use it here.
About this place, the less said the better; and the same goes for the living quarters.
I'll keep writing letters, but there may be delays in getting them to you. I'll give you more news later.
Love, Lewis
