Mont Joli, P. Q.

March 26, 1944

Dear Mom,

You tell me that the snow has disappeared down there.( in Glace Bay). Well, it certainly hasn't all gone, here. Only a night ago we had a snow storm, and today the sun tried to melt some of it. I've been told that this part of Canada, including Mont Joli, is as close to the north Pole as is Alaska. So that is an expanation of the length of winter here.

Yes, the Verrell's do seem to think a lot of me, just as I think a lot of them. I'm glad Joyce sent her material to you. I'm sure you'll do a good job, which will show how skilful we Cape Bretoners are.

I've received word from Queen's, and they suggest that I improve my mathematics, so I've sent for a correspondence course from them. It will be coming any day soon, and then I'll be busy. You have to be good to be accepted by them. But boy, I'll be accepted by them if it's the last thing that I do.

So far I haven't heard about my L.A.C.. promotion yet.

I will learn about my promotion when it is posted in the D. R. O.'s some time in April.

Tell Gloria that I'm sorry about her having to have seven teeth removed. Gloria and you had similar problems with teeth.

I expect to come home on a 96 and be in Glace Bay on May 6 or 7. But I'll let you know, before I arrive, if nothing upsets my plans.

Love, Lewis.
