Dear Mom,
First I'd like to say Hurray for Art. That's some fine compliment paid to him by the newspaper. You must be mighty proud to have such a goalie in the family!
Well. I just returned from a trip to St. Thomas. I was treated as though I was at home. Everything was done for me, and the time was altogether too short.
Joyce got Sunday off. ( As you know, she is a telephone operator, so that means she has odd hours), and Ken, even got Saturday afternoon off, so that we could go bowling together. Later we had chicken for dinner, and Mrs. Verrell made chicken sandwitches for my train trip back to camp.
Sunday afternoon, Joyce and I danced to the music of Ken's phonograph, in the dining room. Talk about a swell 96 ! Joyce gave me an identification bracelet with the Air Force crest on it. [ I still have it , almost sixty years later! ) 111 show it to you during my next trip home home.
I left Mont Joli at 8:30 p. m. thursday evening and had a sleeper to ;'cc Montreal, so I was all rested when I arrived in St. Thomas, friday evening at 10 p.m. Then, coming back, I had to leave St. Thomas at 2:15 a. m. monday morning, in order to get back to the Station on time. Although I had only two days there, they were great days. Joyce played the piano until almost 2 a.m. ,while we were getting ready for the train, and then I almost missed it - you know how fast electric trains start up! I've got another picture of Joyce. She's smiling in this one. I'll send it along so that you can see it.
Please thank Mrs. Moores for knitting the socks. That was really good of her. ( There was always a lot of support for Servicemen and women, during the war, and it kept up our moralle.) I received the snaps, and the yam. It will come in handy.
I've been corresponding with Queen's, and everything looks perfect so far. 1'1 let you know more as things progress.
Love to everybody, Lewis
