Dear Mom,

Arrived here by train, and had a good sleep on the way down.

I met a very interesting man on the way up- a Registered Nurse who had worked in the Amherst hospital. He was about 35 years old, and we had quite a long talk, especially about travelling. He was on his way to Moncton to visit some friends. His name was Charles Jordan, and he had been overseas in the last war. Except for a few people, I had not talked to a more interesting fella.

When I was on the train, I also met John Melnick, from Glace Bay, and he, too was a good travelling companion. I find it very cold here, not as it was when I was in Lachine, in August. I almost froze an ear on the way to dinner today, without realizing it. From the lunch that you had packed for me, I had five meals.

Love, Lewis.
