Dear mother;

I guess I owe you a letter now for quite a few days so I am writing tonight. It won’t be long now before I see you. Just under two weeks. I should be home the night of the 20th or 21st. If my leave starts early enough on the 20th I will be home on the 9:15 train if not, I will be a day later. I am not sure just when I will start for Ottawa but it will be quite soon after I get home I guess. It wouldn’t be fair to make Mary wait too long. She has quite a claim on me, you know. I hope it doesn’t cost too much for the trip. I don’t want to break into my little deposit unless its quite necessary. They made a mistake in my pay overseas and over-payed me. I didn’t get payed last month at all, to make up for my debt. I still owe them a dollar out of last months pay. I sure hope it works out O.K. Thank God I sent that money home. It costs a fortune to go out here. I’m going to stay aboard until I go on leave.

Thank Marjorie for the letter, I would write to her tonight too, except that that is the last page of the pad. I must get more tomorrow. I must close now. Give my love to the family. See you soon.

love
John.

P.S. If you see Marguerite Murray, thank her for me for the pretty card

P.P.S. I got the box, it was swell!
