Dear Mrs. Addison:
With great pleasure and appreciation, I’ve finally got around to telling you about, for your lovely and timely parcel.
One of the joys of Xmas over here, of course; is the arrival of parcels; but another, which goes even farther, is hearing from many people whose associations revive old and happy memories. So, from your gift I wandered backto my school days. My happiest and without a doubt, my stormiest days, at Humewood.
Every now and again, a name pops up in the papers. Boys you used to play with and sometimes fight with. Occasionally I bump into long forgotten chums. Just the other day a lad, whose face seemed very familiar, was sitting in a show seat in front of me. I tapped him and mentioned my curiosity, and sure enough, we were in the same class together in Western Tech. The chat we had certainly cheered me up and no doubt it served him the same way.
The war is progressing very favourably and appears to be in it’s final stages. What galls me most, is the fact that there are still many lives to be lost, ere lines as written to our war diary.
However, the settling down of nations to a peaceful world again holds quite a problem; which will keep us all very busy. Canada will keep us busy, I’m sure. Meeting boys from all over our Dominion has certainly opened my eyes, to improvements and changes needed there.
Well Mrs. Addison, this only started out as a letter thanks, but a few rough speculations have cropped in.
So with gracious appreciation, I’ll say Good-bye for now.
Yours truly
Vic Sherman
