My Dear Sister

I suppose you think it queer of me not coming up Monday before I left When I went down in the morning to the Armory no body knew whether we were going or not so I waited around till Cap Teare came it was then 110k and he said that Co "G" was not going but to wait around as he thought there were further orders coming. So I waited till Co "C" was ready to leave when orders came for Co "G" to go but there were only 28 privates 3 corporals and 1 Sgt there so went with them and picked up Co "E" and the guards that was left to guard at St Paul at Saunders we dropped the guards off at a place called Cuba and Co "E" at Ferris, and our Co and "C" Co came here arriving here at 11.30 P.M and immediatly established a picket fence around the outskirts of the town and of course I had to go on the rest of them slept in the cars the next day they detailed a squad to scout the sourounding country for "Injuns" but failed to see any. and have been doing so every day I was out today with a squad of 16 and walked about 18 miles and am pretty tired tonight the "sow belly" and the hard tack tasted sweeter than it ever did before, when we got back from our tramp through the woods and only saw one "Injun" and he said he was a tame one I do not know how long we are going to stay here. I hardly think the Indians are going to come in here when we are here. I hear some talk of them sending us up to there reservation and surround them which is about 28 miles from here. The people here have thrown the town open to us Tuesday night they gave us a grand supper in the town hall which we relished better than any spread yet now if you want to write you can and have it returned if not called for Tell Mrs Burns I will try and get an Indian scalp for her muesum with love to all
