Nov. 10, 1943 Dear Mom - I've had no mail for some time, your latest being July 30, containing snaps. About 10 days ago I was surprised to receive a standard U.S.A. food parcel. I don't know where it came from but it was welcome. The parcel Chick Berry[?] sent form Cairo has so far not turned up and I have not heard from him since. I also received another book from Men of Science. I wonder if I'm an uncle yet? No use worrying about it, because I won't know for another three months whether it's a boy or girl. Another Dieppe man, Hank Slater[?] of Lake Hill is in the other compound. I don't think I know him, but have only seen him across the wire, at a distance. He's a pal of Ernie Underwood. Sorry my letters are so dry but there is not much to say. Do you still get wood from the beach? Lots of love, Syd.
