Dearest Jean:

I left the office for a week's leave on Saturday and came down to Haywards, where I am writing this. On Sunday we worked hard all day cutting wood and out with so much fresh air, and Mrs. Hayward's excellent cooking made me too sleepy to even write a letter. I am staying till Thursday, then plan to go to London direct from here - I want a couple of days up there on my own time to do a little chopping and one or two other jobs.

This is a lovely spot, and the weather is superb. Bert always had plenty of chores so I keep busy - it is the nicest change from the routine of my army life that I could get in this country. Your airgraph of 7 March came just before I started on leave. I am surprised that my mail has not been getting through faster, I send an airgraph every week. This is all for now. Will be writing next Sunday when I get back -

LOVE

GER.
