Dear Lieut. Brock:
Yesterday I received the letter you wrote my mother concerning my brother, L/Cpl. Pulsifer. I want to thank you for your letter. I do not know if Mother has written but I know she, as well as the other members of the family, appreciated your letter very much.
His death has caused us much sorrow but we are glad to know he played his part in this conflict. We are relieved to know he did not suffer. I was afraid we would get no further word of him and we did not know any of the men he was with for the last few months and we knew of nobody to whom we could write to find out about his death.
It seems hard to realize that we will not see him again. He was a chum as well as a brother to me but I fear I did not do very much for him since he went over. Now that it is too late to write him I realize I could have written him more often and in other ways shown my appreciation of what he and others were doing for us at home.
Your description of the night of his death helps me to understand how much he and the other men had to go through Lloyd seldom mentioned the actual fighting and I never asked as I hoped to hear what he wanted to tell me of the battles, etc, when he came home.
I also even appreciate your letter more when I know you wrote it after coming back from so long under such conditions as you described. It can't be a pleasant task - at the best of times - to write the relatives of the boys who have been killed.
This letter is poorly expressed but I wanted you to know how much it meant to me to hear something more of Lloyd.
Sincerely,
Mildred Pulsifer
