4 P.M. Wed.
Dear mom,
It has been raining here all day and it is raining quite hard now. We have moved into the training wing and its right next to the mess hall. We do not have to march to our meals and we also eat before the fellows from the reception wing arrive. As today was our first day we didn't do much. We are being trained as a squadron of seven flights each. I am in the seventh flight. Our corporal isn't as nice as our last one but there are lots worse than him on the station. This morning we learned the different movements to each command, in doors of course. This afternoon after roll call our flight was taken to the hospital to have some more nocks but I was very lucky in not having to have any as the first bunch I got were all negative. I just have to have three more T.A.B.T. tests. After that we were all taken to a show in the arena. I then came up to the y to write this letter.
We got our double e cards last Mon. but I have not been uptown yet. Harry Harmes, one of my friends and I have decided to go uptown just as soon as supper is over which is about 5 o'clock. I have to buy a belt, a soap box, and a bar of laundry soap. I had $8.0 when I arrived here and I have $2.00 left. Out of that $6.00 spent I have spent $4.00 of it on necessary personal things which are absolutely needed. I believe tomorrow is pay day.
I was sitting in the recreation room today after dinner and I happened to look up at the doorway and I saw Jim Hoskins. He had just arrived along with 67 other fellows. I'm afraid he isn't going to like the service very much. I also passed Harry Head as we were being paraded back from the show but I was unable to draw his attention.
I bought a pair of swim trunks for .75 that were marked $2.95. When I picked them up I could almost hear them talking to me, they are so loud. Each afternoon, while we are in the training wing, we have a ½ hr. P.T. and a ½ hr. swim right after it. The swimming pool is just to the side of the depot and there is a small zoo between us and the pool.
I received my one & only letter from you last Monday. I was expecting one today but it didn't come from anyone.
Well mom its supper time here and I'm really hungry, so goodnite for the time being.
Your loving son,
George
P.S. I was very sorry to hear that Austin was crying because he missed me. Tell him that I will write him next and maybe that will comfort him.
