Dear Mom:

Your letter arrived yesterday along with one from Dad. I am glad to hear that you are getting along OK. By the time this arrives you should be home again and feeling much better I hope. Don't be in too big a hurry to get busy around the house. It may spoil Shirley's summer but it is all for the best.

Well I thought that I was going to get my trades test the first of last week but I didn't so I am still working around the gun shed. At the present time we are not very busy as most of our guns are out on scheme. They are down at the coast taking pot shots at the "Zombies" (Doodle bugs) we call them zombies because you never know when they are coming over. They are still staying away from our camp.

This week I am on guard so far we have had good weather. It is just as well as we are sleeping outside. I am not very fond of working all day then having to go on guard at night. It is not too bad for one night but a week of it is almost too much. There is a very heavy dew at night and we don't get a chance to get our blankets dry during the day which is not so good but I think that I am going to live through it.

The boxes are coming through fine. I have the film for the camera so I am going to try and get some pictures this weekend.

I was swimming on Monday afternoon in the lake behind the camp. The water was a little chilly. For some unknown reason we had a half holiday which we did not refuse.

One of these days I am going on my leave as the ban has been lifted now. We cannot go to London and one or two other places. I am going to start by going to Mrs. Coppens' mother as Torquay is not very far away.

Well Mom I will close for now as I am just about out of paper.

Love to all
Ted
