Dear Islay Jean:

Thanks for your interesting and exceedingly well written letter of January 16 which arrived this morning.

Your French should certainly develop with a real French tutor to help out - and by the way, you go to great lengths to tell me all about him, you must have a little more than a passing fancy for the chap.

Yes, vingt-et-un is the same in every country, and I am no mean player - hear the money jingle in my pocket?

I have no doubt that you had extreme trouble finding Evanton on the map, as it is a pretty "pint-sized" sort of place.
London is just too far to be convenient for weekend purposes - what's that? - oh there's a War on. - Yes. (tough!)

There is an army officer here who fought with Winnipeg "Camerons" I believe and was demobilized with them in Winnipeg in 1919. You told me about them I believe.

Received a Christmas card from Aunt Ida yesterday. I suppose everything else is still sculling about in the Mediterranean. Should bring joy to the heart sometime in August. Ha! Ha!

Well I hope to get a good long holiday in Canada after the war before returning, but of course that will probably be some time yet.

Rationing does not affect the Services at all as far as I can see. We live at the same standard. Of course when we go out, the pats of butter certainly look small!

Love

Bill
