Dear Mom & Dad,

I hope this finds you both well. I hope Gwen is well too. I am not too bad, but not good. I haven't heard from you for some time now. Perhaps you haven't been getting my letters either. Blame it on the Monsoons. I received the swell box a while ago, but I kept putting off answering you hoping for a letter. Many thanks for it, Mom. I had a nice box yesterday from Aunt Clara and Uncle Walter. Jim's last letter was from Torquay in Devon. It seems the "R." depot was moved. Perhaps he'll be home by the time you receive this. I certainly hope so. If I have to go to that same "R" depot someday, it will make things rather difficult for Margaret & I. I shouldn't be so pessimistic, should I? I got a letter from Aunt Reta today telling me about Uncle Lin. Please congratulate him for me when you see him. I also got letters from Mary and Cliff today. The first Canadian mail to hit the camp for over a week, by the way. Today was the first sunny day we've had for a while, too. Everybody madly attacked their laundry. With these continual rains everything is mouldy & rotting. Even the tent. Laugh if you like but I think my brain is even mouldy. The feeling one gets out here is very hard to describe. I also got a letter from Sandy MacDonald, my roommate in Galt. He is in Bournemouth now, "Over at last," he says. I guess he'll be joining the occupational forces. I wish I were in that part of the world, instead of this deadly place. I surely don't envy those boys going to the South Pacific. They don't know what they're letting themselves in for. By the way, is there anything promising developing around home regarding jobs, etc. It well help a great deal when the great day of returning home comes, if I know a little about what's going on, and how the old town has changed. I'm enclosing a couple of clippings I ran across. I'll have to go now. So long & thanks again for the box.

Your loving son,

Joe.
