June 5
Dear Bi
Received your box 2 days ago why did you not put a letter in?
Thank Miss [?] for me and tell her I (and the others) eat her cakes under shell fire and I tell you they were good. The sugar went quickly as most of the Officer had never seen it before but I managed to give all a taste.
Rainy today but has been beautiful for some time. Canadians lost heavily this week but I have not heard any particulars yet. We have had a very quiet time their turn just of course it's usual but few casualties. I just got 2 more officers to-day so am up to strength for the first time since I took command. As I suppose you know already I am Captain promoted in the field is that not better then in home Co.
Love and Best Wishes to All
Alex.
