Dear Mrs. Gale

I do hope you will forgive me for writing to you so familiarly but I feel I know you through your charming son. He left us yesterday and we were all very sorry and felt we had lost a brother he is so cheery and kind and thoughtful I was truly sorry to say goodbye, but we hope he may come back one day soon. He is much better. [Took?] his [?] regularly and looked quite fit. The air here is so very invigorating and the country so lovely that it is all a [?] in itself! Your Birthday gift to him arrived yesterday after having been at the trenches in France. It was still very fresh and good the cake and icing and sweets [?] we all enjoyed it at tea! Capt Gale was here for his Birthday! I feel very great sympathy for you in the absence of your dear sons and trust that they will both be restored to you safely and in good health.

With my kind regards and congratulations to you for possessing such a delightful son.

Yours very Sincerely
Julia Bruce
