Dear Ollie:

Just a few lines to let you know that I am still in the land of the living.  Just got out of bed and as am up a little early thought I better try and scratch you a few words as it’s weeks since I have written but you know these are busy times.  Have had several letters from you since I wrote and one box at least and I think two.  I wish to God this war would finish.  I would like to see what it feels like to be able to go and come as I please once more.  I tell it’s pretty tough to be living in ditches and dugouts.  Some of these fine spring days I would much rather be sitting on the riverbank with my old fishing rod for a change at any rate. But suppose it’s no good to get fed up yet.  For they have got to be trimmed before we can get home and I reckon there is quite a kick left in him yet.  Well Allie, I was some surprised to hear that Mell & James had both purchased Autos.  I reckon this world is going crazy for sure.  I bet Freddy will have one before the summer is over if such a thing is possible.  Was glad to hear Dargie was home again and feeling so well.  Hope they don’t have to move from the old Gate’s house for it will sure leave you with nice neighbors for company.  Well I must quit and get my supper.  Wish I could drop in and eat with you.  But never mind, we’ll be home next year this time if nothing splits.

 Love to all

Jack
