R100308 Cpl Bland, G.W. Headquarters, Air Command South East Asia January 9th 1944 No 119 Dear Mum & Dad & El: Well, folks I hope to be getting up tomorrow or the next day & out by the end of the week after my little spell of "infectious hepatites" to be technical. The M.O. comes around every day & says "Well how are you today, Bland" & I keep saying "As good as I'll ever be, thanks" then the nurse chips in and says "He still looks yellow though, don't you think" like as though she enjoyed keeping me in bed. But today, bless her she said I was looking quite pale & would be getting up soon. Incidentally Elaine, she was saying how well I could make my bed, so anything you want to know, I'll gladly help you out??? Your letter of Dec. 6th Elaine was just handed to me and I was really glad to hear all about your many visitors etc. You must be awfully busy, Mum, but its better to have friends interested enough to call around then otherwise. Am glad you're cutting out some R.A.B. work Elaine and also pleased that you like your job so well. No other mail since my last letter. The padre and Canadian welfare officer were into see another Canadian and myself the other day & brought some cigarettes they are from RCAF AP. If I don't get back to my own office soon my squadron ldr & group captain will be thinking I've been repatriated (what a hope) or some such thing. It rained yesterday and is cloudy today while temperature remains at a max. of about 80 degrees & min. of about 40 degrees although two or three months will see it soaring to 120 degrees. Another couple of summers and my blood will be water like though I suppose we'll get ? to cold again. Am still eating lots of fruit though I only have chicken once a day & fish once a day. Hope you're all remaining well without flu or anything. Best regards to Francis & Enid & Eddie & Isobel when you write or see them. Love to you all, George xxxxxxxxxx
