Dear mother

I hope you are quite well, I got your letter today, after Church Parade.
This afternoon is a holiday so I came up on top of Ceasars Camp to write this letter, Ceasars Camp is a hill pretty near a big as the Meakin [?] north of Shorncliffe, on a fine day you can see France very plainly from here but today it is rather misty.

It is fine being over here after Canada everyone is enjoying it very much, we had rather a poor tie when we first landed. We didnt get anything to eat from the time we left the boat on monday morning at 5.30 until the next day at noon, & then we all walked a out of camp into town & bought it. I am going to try & get some leave about the end of this week if I can, they may not issue any any for a while though We had Ralph Connor the author speaking to us this morning at Church Parade, it was more of a lecture than a sermon mostly about fighting.

There are about 30,000 troops here mostly Canadians, & quite a lot of Wounded, there's quite a lot of airships of one kind and another around here, & Warships as well, it is very interesting to me, because I have never seen anything of the kind before. I will wire you from Stafford or [?] when I come Home but I dont expect it will be for a week or two yet. give my love to all & tell Emmy I am longing to see Jean your loving Tommy
