Dear Mrs. Fitzgerald,

I must regretfully inform you that since your son, Sergeant John Ernest Fitzgerald, was reported missing no further information regarding him has been received other than that contained in the letter to you dated September 5th from these Headquarters.

You may rest assure that every possible effort is being made to trace your son and upon any news being obtained you will be informed immediately.

May I extend my sincere sympathy to you and the members of your family in this time of anxiety.
