Letter

[Beginning of letter missing]

I am returning picture which I clipped from a paper you sent me. It isn't very clear but I dont think there is any doubt but that it is our own bunch. It is exactly as we were when I saw the photographer. We were just passing through a broken line of his barb wire, which can be seen on the left. Of course we were just advancing for the "second phase" of the attack at the time. I didn't see any photographers afterwards. I wouldn't take their job for any money. They might just as well be really soldiering, and mere money, us matter how much can ever be ample compensation for soldiering in war time.

What do you think of the war situation now. It looks very much brighter dont you think? We have been hearing all kinds of rumors lately. Rumors about Austria, Turkey, new advances, etc. How many of them are true I dont know, but we shall hear eventually I suppose.

I have just written quite a long letter home, the first for quite a time, but you can quite understand how difficult it has been to find time to do anything, and then when I did manage to get a couple of letters written, it was impossible to get them posted. Well must close for today, as I want to write to [?].

Bye Bye
