Dear Aunt

I write these few lines hoping to find you well as it leaves me at present, I suppose you will think me awful for not writing to you before this, but never mind, better late than never, of course you will know that we are somewhere at the front and doing as well as can be expected, the weather here is wretched just now, raining awful, and the ground like a [?] but it does not stop the big guns from running night and day, it must be terrible for the men in the trenches, they have to stay there just the same, we have not been having a pleasant time, by any means we have moved camp here about four times since we came here, and of course we have been on fatigues, and have had to clean up the camp every time, and I can assure you, it is not very appetizing either at times, but never mind, we have it to do, so we do it, you will probably wonder why I don't tell you more of the things that I see here, well I cannot tell you all that I would like to because all our letters are censored before they can leave the country but some day when I get back I will be able to tell you all about it, and probably bring back a few curio's to show you, tow or three of which I have already got, you will find a postcard enclosed in the letter which I thought you would like, I am sending Edith and her mother one as well, when I get the time to write, well I will close my letter now, so ta-ta from your affectionate Nephew

Herbert

p.s. I am going to try and get something else to send you all later on H.C.
