Dear Mother,

It's a long time since I wrote a proper letter, and I've got quite a list of news. You know after that night guard I was shoved in a field hospital (another name for refigirator) where not being able to get the [?] door I decided to try the starvation Cure. On Saturday I swore to the Doctor that I was quite well and managed to escape from the hospital (with everyone else who could crawl away) I saw our old major & got a few days sick leave, and beat it down to Salisbury in a motor lorry going that way, caught the next train to Cornwall and surprised Granny early in the morning, I had a dandy time with Margion; which looks as [?] & pretty as ever, and is full of "Maws". I saw the Sova's, had a Long talk with Mrs Boose, & went for a dandy drive with Mr Signors. Everybody seems very well and practically unchanged. On Monday I telegraphed for 4 days extension, and received in reply a order to report at once. So went morning I said ta ta to Granny & went to P.Z. to catch the 10, Rivier Express I saw the Edwards's while waiting, I had quite a talk with them just as I was getting in the train Granny came running down with a telegram granting my extension, But I had telegraphed uncle Park's to meet me at the station, I stayed in the train, and reached Yelverton in the afternoon. Betty was at [?] with Aunt Bess but cam back yesterday I've had dandy time weather on leave & had a nice [?] time with mice walks and lay evenings around the fire and believe me a fine, good grub & comfortable bed, are comforts not to be sneezed at after living in [?] leaky tents

Had a dandy time at Yeleverton but my cold is a s bad as ever, Came back to camp last night. Uncle & Betty came into Plymouth & we saw the aquarium etc. They gave me a dandy sweater Coat a pair of gloves & a little electric torch. All things that I wanted badly, also a big tin of grub. Everyone is so kind that it takes off quiet a lot from the discomforts we have to put up with. Mrs Lare wrote and a nice letter asking me to [?]mouth.

Eric
