My darling girl

I got to the Battalion yesterday afternoon after two days, train & road. Today has been a hard day, stand to 5-30 a m, 6 a m a long march to do some work as a working party & then a long march back, we got back about 4 P.M, have had some tea, a shave, wash, also foot wash & now feel jake. I am attached to D Cy (dont put this on the letters) & all Cy officers have a Cy Mess, we eat, sleep etc in a corrugated hut like a large cylinder cut in half & are very comfortable. It is raining to beat the band just now, so I guess old Fritz will hardly start another offensive for a day or two. There is a big gun a few hundred yards from us, & every time it goes off it just shakes the ground, got very little sleep last night in consequence but believe me I'll sleep tonight gun or no gun. Well darling am hoping your letters will soon catch me up now, shall get them alright now I am with the Batt'n. Feel very satisfied now I am in the game, at the same time kiddie am looking forward to our reunion D.V. Fondest love to you & kiddies. Bye the bye dear you can figure on at least £15 in addition to your seperation [sic] allowance dont know yet how much a month this is going to cost me, if possible will but save all you can.

Your loving,

Jim
