My darling girl,

Thanks for your long and interesting letter of August 11th, I feel proud to think that you picked up swimming so soon & am now thinking what a lot of time we wasted in you not learning sooner.

I sent you a very important letter a week ago & am now wondering whether it has gone down with the mails of the Hesperian, and I also sent some presents for the kiddies, a leather pencil case for Frank's birthday, a celluloid doll for Gwladys & a sort of a Teddy bear for Eric, so if you havn't got them by this you can guess where they are, at the same time I dont envy you the explanation you'll have to make the kiddies.

I got a very long newsy letter from Gib Rowan today and among other things he tells me Murry Doyle is trying to get a Commission, Dave Hunter & Mona Beatie [sic] are to be married in the fall, we have very little to do just now as we are waiting for more men from Canada, have done quite a lot of riding lately, some of the Senior Officers lend me their horses, I expect to get a horse allotted to me in about a week's time, as we come under the new organization for Reserve Battalions.

By this time providing you got my letter alright you will have decided as to whether to come over or not. Will send you $50 the end of this month could have done so now only am sending $50 to G. Kerr to pay off some of that Mortgage. We have had some beautiful weather this last few days, a godsend to the farmers as they had been held back for weeks in getting their harvest owing to the wet weather. Well sweetheart have not much news this trip so am enclosing a story Gib Rowan enclosed in his letter to me & I'm wondering if you'll see the joke.

Love to Annie & David & fondest love to Frank, Gwladys, Eric & your dear sweet adorable self.

Your loving,

Jim
