Oct. 14th, Wednesday.

This morning we passed the Scilly Islands at a distance, and this evening came into Plymouth Harbour. We watched a large battleship at target practise, just outside. She carried away one of the target screens towed behind a small tug. The shells could be seen to send up a huge column of water and then ricochet across the water.

The convoy was patroled by a small fleet of torpedo boats, which shot past us in all directions. Tonight the huge search lights of the forts and battleships are roving about across the water glancing from ship to ship and away out to sea.
