Dear Aunt,-

I received your most welcome letter yesterday and it seemed good two hear from you, I was sorry two hear that Islay had been sick but hope she is quite strong again.

Well we are in summer camp now, we are camped out in tents, well you might say we are living outside for we are drilling all day & we don't even have a tent two eat in we just line up with out mess tins & march past the cook and he dishes you out your portion of food which is mostly "mulligan" it is always the same, beef that is the only meat they have had since I have been in the battalion of course they have bacon for breakfast but it is awfull salty but still we seem two live on it alwright.

It is very quiet hear where we are now there is very little amusement of any kind & I guess after living in Toronto all winter it makes it seem even more dead. We are about seventy five miles from Halifax it is a real pretty country here though but I think I would rather be training around a city because then you could do something two break the monotony.

It does not look now as if our battalion would ever go overseas we thought when we left Toronto that we were going right across well we first went two Quebec & stayed there three days and then we came here where I guess that we will stay. There was some trouble with the U.S. they did not want us two go across with the words American Legion on our badges so now they are making the badges over just the same only where the American Legion was they are putting some latin words meaning deeds not words I think is the meaning but at that it dont look like they would go away this summer, Well hoping this letter will find you & all the family in the best of health I am always Your Affectionate Nephew

John
