Dear Folks:

Just a not today as I'm not "at home". I'll write again in a few days, for there has been enough happen in the last few days to make a regular edition, however I came out OK and just now am in a rest camp for a few days. I'll give you details when I get back to the B'n.

You see we "went over the top and take it from me we saw life. It rained all day and certainly made it miserable - besides we had been in the forward area for almost a week before going over and weren't in the best of condition. I got along jake until late in the afternoon when Chief & I got buried by a shell and altho not really hurt at all we were shaken up considerably. I got a few scratches on my face & hurt my hip a little so we went out to a dressing station to get fixed up. We walked out so you see we weren't hurt very bad. We got fixed up & were sent out to a rest camp for awhile & thats where I am now.

I'm pretty sure there's a bunch of eats at the B'n for me so I've written the Q.M.S. to hang onto them until we get back. I would have had them forwarded but I was afraid of losing them s tho't I'd better play safe.

I got quite a bunch of letters the night before we went over including one from Mpls & one from home. Thats why I'm pretty sure there are some parcels there by now.

I saw Fred before we went in the line. He's certainly looking fine. He has done wonders lately in shooting. I suppose he has told you. He lost the Corp Championship by one point. He has made quite a name for himself as a marksman.

Well I'll call this all for now. I'll give you more news when I write again and in the meantime don't worry for its a pretty safe bet that our Brigade won't see action again for quite awhile.

Love to Everybody

Bill

P.S. Could you send me something in the line of lined leather gloves. You see its awfully wet here and it I had some sort of leather glove that I could oil it would keep the water out. If fur lines ones don't cost too much sent me a pair. Thanks WJM
