My Dear Jessie:

Rec'd a lot of mail from home since I got back to Batt. the latest I got from you was dated May 6th I was sorry to hear Sade was going so far away to live, what happened to the Steel works? it seemed to drop rather flat all of a sudden. I received with much pleasure your nice box from home it was certainly fine. Don is here now and he helped me demolish the cake, those were great socks, they certainly feel fine on the feet. Rather sudden about John's operation I have had a couple of letters from him lately, in the last he had been operated on and doing fine, which I was glad to hear. He was doing quite a lot of work by his letter before he took sick.

Was glad to hear you have a nice stylish mare that you can drive, suppose you still have the colt, it wouldn't do to part with him now.

I think you would laugh if you could see how we are living these days, in a bit the house we built ourselves. Harry, Don, and I built one out of corrugated iron (hoop shaped), it makes a great little house. The weather has been fine this last two months, its certainly nice. I think Don. is writing a line in this so will stop with Love to all

Loving Bro Spence
