My Dearest

The parcel arrived quite safe, it was such a welcome treat. Thank you very very much Dearest.

I'm afraid this will not be too much of a letter, there really seems to be nothing to write about. For one thing, it is so terribly hot, so I guess I am too lazy. This must be the same heat wave they have had in the States. It feel rather uncomfortable but I suppose it is just what is required. All the farmers round here are busy harvesting.

I am having a wonderful time since coming to the Battery. We are rather busy just now & I do not have so much spare time as before, but it is much more interesting & I like it fine. There seems to be more satisfaction in doing work that you know is worth while.

I have made several trips to the guns with ammunition. we leave here about dusk & if everything goes alright, usually get back just after midnight. I do not know Legay's address, he has not answered my last letter which I addressed to Gen. Del. I guess perhaps he never got it. Does he expect to come to England soon? Dearest I don't think I will have to wait much longer for my leave, not more than a month or six weeks. Even that seems a long time when I am so anxious to see you, but it will soon slip by. Six weeks are just nothing compared with the fifteen months that I have waited already.

Well Dearest I will close now hoping you are quite well & oh I am longing so much to come.

Lots & lots & lots of love & xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
from Yours only & forever
Fred
