Dear Mother
I received your letter of Oct 2 yesterday with my $20 I havent got my parcels yet but its a little early yet there is a Canadian mail in to day and it will be coming in for three or four days so there is a chance my parcels might be in it but not lightly. I got a letter from Muriel to-day. In case you don’t get my last litter I got back from leave a week ago yesterday and I had a wonderful time. I cabled you because I hadent writen you for nearly two weeks. Eric and I went to Balsover Derbyshire and stayed with some friends of a Mr and Mrs Sales they lived in Winnipeg for nine years and they sure treated us swell I really had the best time I have since I came to England they really made us feel at home they could do enough for us. They want us to go there on our next leave and at Christmas and I am certainly going to Eric and I are getting our next leave together again and it will be a near Christmas we will probaily be ten days.
Yes I got your letter of Aug 23th with the five dollars and I wrote you to that effect. I also got the $10 you sent on Sept 16 a couple of days before I went on leave so you can see I had lots of money on leave I even came back with three pounds. Yes I was quite sick with the Flu and really felt miserably I diden’t eat anything for seven days and lost quite a bit of weight. I was looked after very good and I had a week excused duty when I got out but I am 100% now and feeling swell.
I am sorry to hear about Mr Scott having Sleeping sickness I hope he has completely recoverered I new all about the sleeping sickness and infantil parelise and I was worring you see a lot of the other boys here get the winnipeg papers but I am glad to hear it is over I am tirribly sorry to hear about Mr Coburn he always treated me so good when I was at the plant Glad to hear Helen is home the change must have done her a lot of good. I am just dying to see Carol Anne and I don’t think it will be very long. Glad to hear Dad is still laying laying Colas tell him I will write him in a few days I got the 1000 cigarettes quite a while ago. The mail has been pretty slow lately. but a fellow fellow has to come over here to know who are his real friends and who arn’t. I never seen to get many letter about three or four at a time and the rest of the fellows get ten and twelve at a time.
our whole battery spoke over the radio a few days ago at least it was just made into recording and will be broadcast in Canada some time between now and Christmas I think you will be notified it will be a special broadcast for Manitoba We had to fill out a form and write on the back what we were going to say and I think they send that to you. I didnint say all I wrote on the back of mine because when you get up to the mickphone you feel pretty nervousI wonder if you could send me two or three kacki shirts with collar attached not dressy ones like you sent me last time I am using them for my best but some cheap ones for every day wear thicker then the ones I have now. I wonder if you could send Mr and Mrs Sales so butter or something I for get the name of the street they live on and Eric is out to‑night but will give you there address in my next letter. Well every thing is very quite over here and I am in the best of health we are somewhere on the Coast again for good this time I think Staff is still in aldershot so I wont be seeing much of him. Staff ran into Frank Dogg in London he is in the Air Force and has been over to France a few times well there isent much more to say so please don’t worry love to all
