Dear Friends:
Re: Canadian United Allied Relief Fund, C.U.A.R.F.
During the coming winter approximately 125,000,000 people in the liberated countries of Europe of whom more than 30,000,000 are children, will be in dire need of clothing.
To assist in meeting this need the Canadian United Allied Relief Fund has been formed, with Mr. W.M. Birks of Montreal as chairman. This Relief Fund (the word Fund here does not refer to the raising of money), action on behalf of UNNRA, is organizing a National clothing Collection from coast to coast. By this means it is hoped to secure at least ten million pounds of clothing which is to be Canada’s contribution towards meeting the needs of the people in liberated Europe.
This clothing drive which has the approval of our Moderator, the Right Rev. J.H. Arnup, D.D., will be held from October 1-20. In each community a Committee(s) will be set up to organize for this drive and they will notify you concerning the place or center to which all clothing should be taken. In some communities a church or churches may be asked to make space available in their Sunday School Halls for the collection of this clothing.
Will you please do everything possible to advertise this drive and to call upon the people in your church to co-operate, not only in giving clothing, but also in acting on local committees when called upon to do so.
The need is great and we look forward to a generous response from the people of the United Church of Canada.
Sincerely yours,
J.R. MUCHMOR,
Secretary.
