My Dear wife and daughter

At last Im writing that long delayed letter, but you see I have just come out for a rest, and I kept putting it off untill then Ill send sweetheart a card tomorrow, I got that money from Bert today, so will go down tonight and buy one for her. The weather is improving fast and Im glad, its getting more like spring everyday.

I might as well tell you that I have been over the top, so I am a full fleged soldier now, it is an experience I dont want very often allthough, its all in the game, also it is about the grandest sight you could imagine, but of course the other side of it aint quite so nice. another thing we were up against the Prussian guards and they are the best soldiers Germany has, so you see after this war is over, Ill be able to say that I fought against the best of them

Well be good Kidds kiss little sweetheart for me and be good yourself until after the war, which wont be very long

goodbye
Frank
