5/5/18.
My Dear Mir,
I was surely glad to get yours of March 31st, but have been some time, getting it answered. In fact to-night I intended going down to a movie, but it has been raining and I am afraid is not thro yet.
Glad you got the Hypo O.K. and hope you will have no trouble getting needles to fit. Do you ever get the needles sharpened? We used to do them in Eastbourne, especially the large ones for inoculation and arm bleeding.
When you wrote, you were just getting the news of the Somme retreat, and I guess got most of it pretty straight. Of course the news is better now, and they did not get away with very much at this end of the line. Apparently the Canadian’s have not been for very much of it yet, altho you know this better than we do, as you see the lists each day. Haven’t seen a Canadian casualty list for weeks. How fine that Mc. Kinnin and Nixon were able to get home, they will be able to let some of the others come over and take their turns at it.
You people are certainly busy, how is it, are some of the other Hospitals being used by the Military? We have been busier than at present, and have never been filled to capacity. I hope to be able to send some pictures in a short time, that will give you some idea of the place. The pictures have not been passed yet tho.
I think the Bellview is better than Manhattan, so you are lucky not to have gone sooner. How long will you stay? I hope by the time you are back, I will be getting back too.
Hope your typhoid inoc. did not make you too sick. My second stab was the only one that bothered me at all. After the first series (you usually get a series annually) it is hardly noticeable.
I suppose there are quite a few planes around there now. The air here is full of them, and of all sizes. Fritzie looked us over yesterday afternoon, but that’s as far as he went. We have been pretty lucky for three or four weeks now.
You have had an awful time all right. I suppose if we knew the truth, you contracted scarlet while on some such fool stunt as the McCormick adventure. Why don’t you use that dome of yours?
Well Honey, it looks like it had cleared up, so I think I will stroll out for a few minutes – now 6.30. Be good and get as much fun as you can. Love to the girls.
Your loving brother,
Worth.
