Dear Louise,

A great sorrow fell upon our Home, when early this morning we received the sad tidings of your Dear Son Herberts Death.

“May he rest in peace”

Our first thought when we heard the sad tidings found expression in the rellevance of resignation in the familiar of yours

“Father in thy gracious keeping”
“Now we leave thy servant sleeping”

And that was succeeded by the earnest, silent prayer

God help and comfort you and yours, in this great trial of affliction,

We three are no strangers to the Desolation that comes hand-in-hand with bereavement into a Home. and have learned from an experience oft-times repeated, how idly fall upon the ear of mourner the well meant, but common place words, with which we from mortals try to comfort one another:

Only God can bind up the crushed heart of the mourner

Only the Father of Mercy and God of all Consolation,

Only the compationate Christ- the Man of Sorrow and acquainted with grief. Only Holy Ghost whose most attractive title is the Comforter, can effectivally minister to the heart bowed Down with woe.

Into the gracious protection of this Divine Trinity I [?] you all, with the prayer that while you sorrow “not without hope” for the Dear one God has called up higher- you may be enabled by His Grace to look on ward and wait in patience for the Great Day of Revelation and Reunion when all tears shall be wiped away and God in His infinite Power and Love shall place him for whom you now mourn, at your side again, in that happy Land where sorrow and sighing are unknown.

With love and Deep sympathy

I am
Yours affectionately
Helen Bullock

P.S
When my Sister Victoria went Down to the Kitchen and read the Obituary Notice in the Herald- to her surprise and gratification, the Cook feelingly remarked

“Greater love hath no man that this that a man lay Down his life for his friends”

My Sister thinks you will read this tribute with pleasure for Herbert died in a noble enterprise and gave up his gently, [?] life that the Motherland and Empire might not die.
