Dear Auntie,

I have only time to write you a very short letter to thank you for the scarf. It was very kind of you to send it and I can tell you it will come in very handy because we certainly do get some very cold weather over here. Well I hope you spent a very happy Xmas. Eve told me you had gone away for six weeks so you would not all spend Xmas together. We had a fine time here. We had lots to eat and plenty puddings sent over by the people in Canada. The cook spoiled the sauce by putting to much rum in but on the whole everything was very good. And we spent a very happy evening with singing and music. I got a parcel from Gran with one of her good old cakes in and a pudding. She is keeping in the best of health., I saw her when I was on my leave and she looked fine and I hope it will not be very long before I see her again. I expected to get over for Xmas with the Capt. But it could not be managed. But I think I will be able to go next week. We only get eight days from here so as I have quite a way to go I will only have about six days up there but I don’t think I should kick as some of the men have been over here a year and have had no leave yet. We are supposed to get leave twice a year. Officers four times. Well you will think this a very short letter but really I have so little time so hope you will excuse it. Remember me to Uncle. I hope he is keeping well. With best love to everybody and yourself.

Your affectionate Nephew.
Eddie.
