My dear Son

As all the folks are writing I don't think I will be able to give you much news. I hope you are quite well and are thoroughly at home at your new quarters and like your Comg Officer. I would like to know who is in command at Qubec. The permission paper I hope was quite satisfactory. I had a letter from Col. Mackay from Fernie. I wrote to him at Victoria but he returned to Fernie.

As it takes about a week for a letter to reach you or 5 days it seems a long time so you must write often as we would like to hear from you once a week and it would be nice to hear from you every week end.

I was in Nelson a few days ago and Mr. Sutcliff the old Vetran asked very kindly of you and they are anxious to have a Photo of you so when you can get them taken with your uniform on send me one extra so as I can send you one. The Vetrans of Nelson are doing well for the ones who went from there so from time to time so they will want your Photo. Lance is still talking of going to the front but you know the rest.

We are having mild weather but we have about 6 in. snow. Saturday I was drawing logs up for wood and expect to do so for a few days and then draw up my hay. I am going to send the Oxen and Horses up to Annable for the winter as I wish to save my hay.

You may have an idea of how much use Alf and Duff are to one in drawing logs and anything else in connection with handling horses.

G.M. Annable thinks he will want me down to Moose Jaw to help him in his case re Moose Jaw Nursery but I do not care to go.

Well I must close now as it is bed time. Christmas is near here and am sorry I have not a cent for it yet but perhaps I may yet; let us hear from you often. I close wishing you a Merry Xmas and a Happy new Year from your loving father.
