Mrs E. Beath,
Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg, Man.
Dear Mrs Beath,
You have doubtless received official information of the death of your son, Pte J.A.S. Thompson, 910241, which occurred while in action on the 26 Oct/17 – but as Chaplain of the Battalion I felt that I must send you a brief note expressing the heartfelt sympathy of all his comrades, both officers and men in the great loss which you have sustained. He was a good soldier and a faithful comrade and we all feel his loss most keenly. He met a soldier’s death whilst courageously carrying out his duty in the front line of battle, with his face to the foe – and you, with us, have every reason to feel intensely proud of his record. All his personal belongings will be forwarded to you through the official channels, which I trust you will receive safely. Assuring you of my willingness to be of any possible service to you, and of my deepest personal sympathy, Believe me.
Yours Sincerely
