France Sept. 28/17

Dear Jenn:-

I received your letter of Sept. 2nd last night, so as I have a little time to myself this morning I will try and write you a few lines, as we have to do things when we can now, and not just when we would like to ourselves.

Dad must be getting real sporty in his old days to be investing in a car, but I guess he is about as much entitled to one as the majority of people who have them. I wouldn't mind having it here to take a few spins out of it myself. I was quite surprised when I read in your letter that Herb had been wounded for he had got through for so long, he was out here almost three years./ I had a letter from Andrew a few days ago, and he was back in a rest billet then. There has been some pretty favourable reports going around here lately, but how much foundation there is to them is hard to say. However all we can do is to hope for the best and take whatever comes.

This is the last day of our course on trench mortars so I suppose before long we will get our chance up the ligne. It has certainly been fine weather here this month. It was awfully hot in August but all this month has been perfect scarcely a bit of rain and just a nice temperature. The nights are beginning to get a little cold now.

Well good bye for this time

Love to all Jim
