November 27, 1944
Just a few lines to wish you a very Merry Xmas and a bumper 1945. I know you are all as disappointed as I am that circumstances won’t allow me to be with you this Xmas. However, we all have a great deal to be thankful for. At least we are all alive and well and there is every indication that this Xmas will be the last of War with Germany. I trust you have a nice fat “Tom” earmarked for the supreme sacrifice and all ingredients for the pudding carefully laid aside. Just spare a thought for your soldier of the family as you do justice to the occasion – and Mr. Turk. They promise us a liberal ration over here this year, so don’t feel too sorry for me for I’m an old campaigner now and will get along.
