Mrs. Jane Jones
Vancouver, B.C.
Madam,
I deeply regret to inform you that your son, N° 102286, William, Perce Jones, was killed in action yesterday at 4.30 pm. It must be great consolation to you, and also to those who know him, to learn that he died on his sentry post doing his duty.
He was killed instantly, and his body was taken out to be buried in one of our cemeteries behind the lines.
I will write to you again when I learn where it is. All the men and myself thought highly of him and we deeply sympathize with you in your great loss.
I am
Yours very truly
C. E. Smith. Lt
