Dear Markle

I've no forgotten you nor the nice Scotch way in which you asked for the two soldiers photos, so here they are, and you must just do with them as you said - Keep them to yourself for if any of the good Canadian friends saw them they would get a very severe shock and I would not care to be responsible.

Your “Blighty” is hanging out well, and, while I have no desire to see you back in France, I do hope your arm will come all right again.

You must have had some excitement during some of these air raids, and they will most likely start again in a week or so when the moon comes again.

Sara and I are just going away to the country to-day till tuesday so that makes a nice weekend. Hope the weather is better that [sic] it has been for some weeks.

What do you think of Russia? Really I sometimes think every thing goes against us. I'm perfectly certain the war won't last long now. It will just finish up suddenly some day just as it began.

Why did you not run away and come up to Scotland when the heather was in bloom. What a sight for you. A ten mile walk over a heather hill would make you as strong again as you are.

I had a letter from Mrs. Stewart the other day and she was asking kindly for you both. Bill is not home from St. Ninians yet so she has had some holiday.

Well this is a scrawl but I was trying to get some letters written to ease my conscience before I go away, then I can feel better and enjoy the few days.

I'll try not to be so long writing next time

Yours sincerely

Jessie Peden
