In reply to your letter of Sept 13 re Cpl. James Francis Watson I have actually very little information to offer as I am new with this unit and had to check back with boys who were with the unit at the time of Watsons death on August 4th.

Cpl. Watson was killed in the very heavy fighting in the sector known as the Caen hinge the holding of which made possible the allied break out from our bridgehead and gave us the great victory in France which in turn assured the ultimate victory that means as much to the whole christian world.

Sorry as we are that our boys had to come to France and make the supreme sacrifice we are glad Watson lived to see the end in view and know the certainty of the victory

He is buried in soil freed by his own forth and service and perhaps the joy of the people here to whom his coming meant freedom happiness and life itself may help to lighten the load of personal sorrow borne by his parents

Will you convey to them the sympathy of officers and men of the unit and may God comfort and help them
