France August 9/17

Dear Mr. Irwin

Many thanks for your kindly welcome letter receved this evening was very glad to hear from you.

I receved two letter’s from Karl I wrote him a letter in the same time, as I wrote to you and I receved a answer about seven or eight days after, and also receved a letter from him about a week ago telling that will likely be in the 4th Batt. when he comes out to France, and I, am certainly going to see him when he comes out here.

The weather out here is very good at present only a little drop of rain now and again.

What do you think of the war now do you think she is a going to finish this year & what is about Conscription in Canada, is there going to be anything out of it.

I, am in the trenches at present and of course you know what it is to write a letter and to hold your gas-mask at the Alert as the Hun is putting a lot of gas over this days so youll excuse the writing

I, am expecting to go on leave in a very short time, I, am going to Paris.

I was really thinking to go to Englan but as I have no relations in England or in Paris and might go to England any time now so I decided to see Paris.

This I about all I’ve got to say for just now hoping to hear from you soon again

I remain

Yours very Sincerely

Louis
