Dear Ollie:

What do you think of the looks of this paper?  The Y.M.C.A. has a building right across the street from the armories so it makes a grand place to write as we don’t have any place to do any writing for we are still living in tents.  Six of us to each tent and nothing but a wax candle for a light do you see we have damn poor accommodations for writing.

Well Ollie, I think am going to like it fine.  There is a hell of a lot of bosses but are pretty easy on us fellows that came in last.  We are in with a fine battalion, the Cape Breton boys, and a husky lot they are too.

If old A.A. has not come down to Halifax before you get this, you give him Jack’s safety razor will you?  Well we got our hair cut today right down with the clippers.  All but a little on the top that can’t be more than an inch long so we are a pretty lot.  Jack and I are still wearing our own suits and they begin to show it too but we got our drill suits tonight.  But they have all got to be numbered yet so we won’t have them to wear until tomorrow afternoon.  We got two suits of underwear, one pair of pants, sweater, 1 short coat, 1 overcoat, 1 pair of overalls, 2 pairs red socks, 3 shirts and all kinds of brushes so you see we are well fitted out.  Tell Fred I will write him someday.  Well I guess I have told you the news that I know so will say goodbye for now.
