Dear Mr. Irwin,

Your welcome letter of Oct. 2nd reached me yesterday. The pen Sketch of your travells was splendid. I almost fancied I was with you, but say you are going to make me Home sick. What would I give to be on one of those expeditions, Karl has written to me since he left here for Sandling, and also Herb Stephenson who I was very pleased to hear from, Received a small parcel of Soldier’s Comforts from the Woman Institute, very acceptable, especially now the wet weather has set in. Oct 19th completed 3 years Service in the Army, seems like 30 to me Still I live in Hopes to be in Canada before another 3 has passed.

We had a weeks campaign here in Camp. The Services conducted by Cap. Cameron of Bloor St. Church. They were splendid and very interesting, a large number of Boys decided to turn over a new leaf and start Life fresh. Since the Quarantine has been lifted I am up to my eyes in work, working almost night and day to catch up, sometimes I think I am the Colonels right hand man. Am suffering from a Cold due to the changeable weather. The days are drawing in, and the nights seem long, still I put in the time at the Y.M.C.A. Huts, where something of interest goes on every night.

Will be delighted to give Karl any help I can, regarding the tricks of the trade I feel sure he will find them helpful when he goes to France.- Fair Day has passed for another year. Hoping you had a fine day and a record crowd, and the Scouts took honors,- Christmas will soon be with in and alreddy I am making preparations for spending the Day at Home.-

Please remember me to all. Mrs. Irwin and Family. Will close for this time.- News rather scarce.- All the rest of the Boys are well.

Yours Sincerely

W.J. Stares.
