Witley March 13 1918 Dear Mother:- Received your letter from Mount Carmel tonight and you card a few days ago but I haven't had much time since then. I am glad you like the place, but I wish you would settle down and use the $48 per month without working. I haven't got any newspapers for a very long time. They don't take any care of paper here. But I have got everyone you sent in an envelope so I guess that is the only way I can be sure of them. I got five letters last night and one tonight. I sort of think some of my mail is going to France to H.R Weeks. You know of him, in the 10th, don't you. His number is 1258207 so you can see how easy it would be for a mistake to occur but he knows me and it will all come back in the end. The reason I think some of mine is going is because I've got some of his but I sent it right back. I am on two weeks gunnery now which is pretty good fun, working with guns. They are training me for the 18 pounders. which is the lightest and most forward of the artillery with the exception of the Horse Artillery. But I may be put in the Siege, I don' know. But I hope not as I want to learn to ride. Well I must close now as it is late. Lovingly Ludlow
